Bob Revere

Bob Revere is the main character in Last Ounce of Courage. This 65-year-old war hero is now a pharmacist and mayor of a small town. Deep down Bob is courageous and honorable, but he has never gotten over the grief of losing his only son in war. That is until his grandson Christian comes to live with him and forces Bob to open up the wounds of his past and rediscover that part of himself that always stood for freedom.

Marshall Teague plays the role of Bob Revere although it may be more accurate to say that Marshall Teague is Bob Revere. A dedicated and successful actor, Marshall has starred in Road House, The Rock and Armageddon as well as appearing in popular television series such as Babylon 5, Walker Texas Ranger, Quantum Leap, Pensacola: Wings of Gold, Stargate SG-1 and Days of Our Lives. But in addition to his acting career, Marshall has been in uniform much of his life, in military school, the navy and as deputy sheriff.

His military experience and his passionate love for his country, made Marshall perfect for the role of Bob Revere. As director Darrel Campbell put it, “Marshall was cast because of his background as a patriot and someone who really has served his country. He had the voice, the look and the determination in his face that physically convinced me he was right for the part. As I heard his take on the character after his reading the script, I knew he absolutely understood the man we had fleshed out on the page.”

Or as Marshall himself said, “I don’t have to ask someone to teach me what it’s like to play a cop or teach me what it’s like to feel like a soldier or teach me what it’s like to have respect for my flag. I didn’t have to be taught that. It’s ingrained.” Which may be part of the reason Marshall continued on to say, “When I read the script Last Ounce of Courage, I guess the best way to put it is I’ve been waiting a lifetime to say these words. That is the best way to sum it up. I believe a lot of what Last Ounce of Courage is about. It’s part of me.”

Dorothy “Dottie” Revere

AA gracious southern woman with a heart of gold, 60-year-old Dottie is a devoted wife to Bob. She has a servant’s heart and volunteers in a mission for the homeless. Not only is she a constant support to Bob, she is the glue that has held her family together through the good times and the difficult times.

Internationally acclaimed actress, film and television star, successful spokeswoman, model of Cover Girl cosmetics, author and proud mother of three, Jennifer O’Neill plays Dottie in Last Ounce of Courage. Jennifer has over thirty feature films to her credit including Summer of ’42.

Director Darrell Campbell immediately saw the grace and beauty in Jennifer that is timeless and that is the essence of the inner grace and beauty that is Dottie. Moreover, “Jennifer didn’t just bring her skill to the role, she brought a deep understanding of the issues we face in this country.”

It’s these issues that attracted Jennifer to the role. “I had a passion when I read this script. I said I have to be a part of this in any way I could possibly be, support it, talk about it. Because I believe in it so much.” Jennifer continues on to say, “ I’ve done over thirty movies and I can tell you this, I know this film is unique. God’s presence is in it and on it because it is His movie. It’s His message”

Christian Revere

14-year-old Christian is the grandson of Bob and Dottie. A free-spirited California kid who likes long hair and skateboarding, Christian has come back with his mother to live with his grandparents after being away for 13 years. Possessing an innate curiosity and a drive to discover the father who died while he was an infant, Christian is on a search to know more about his Dad and discovers who he is in the process. Outgoing and gregarious, Christian doesn’t shy away from conflict which has been known to get him in trouble but can also help him take a stand for what is right.

CChristian is played by award-winning actor Hunter Gomez. Perhaps best known for his role in National Treasure, Hunter has won the Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Short Film for Rocketboy, and the Michael Landon Award as well as has been nominated for Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a feature film for National Treasure and Best Performance in a Short Film for The Blacksmith and the Carpenter.

Darrell Campbell recalls that “Hunter had a realness to him that I prayed we’d find for the role of Christian. Hunter delivers an edgy, determined attitude to Christian. His delivery of his lines demand answers from other characters. Hunter is a very serious artist with the attitude of a seasoned veteran.”

Everyone indeed notices the talent and dedication to the art that Hunter brings with him to acting. In this case, his talent was even further enhanced by his convictions. As Hunter explains, “I wanted to make a statement of my faith with participating in this movie. I love God and Jesus with all my heart and I was looking for a good film to really let me show that and be a part of and work with people that really are Christian people and have good morals and are willing to take a stand for something that a lot of people are willing to attack… I really wanted to be a part of a movie that stood for something I believed in.”

Madison “Maddy” Rogers

Maddy is 14-years-old and is the epitome of the blond-haired All American girl that lives next door to the Reveres. She has been treated by them as lovingly as any granddaughter of theirs would have been treated. She is truly a part of their family and thus is an integral part of Christian’s life when he comes to live with Bob and Dottie. Maddy is athletic, full of personality and perhaps even a little mischief. She loves to stand up for her beliefs, a quality she learned from Bob, Dottie and her father Greg. She wants her life to count for something.

TThe multi-talented Jenna Boyd who plays Maddy is every much as energetic and talented as the character she plays in Last Ounce of Courage. Jenna may be best known for her role in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants for which she was nominated for Best Performance in a Feature Film and her role in The Missing which won her Feature Film – Leading Young Actress award by the Young Artist Association. Although only a teenager herself, Jenna has already also appeared in television shows such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Just Shoot Me, and Six Feet Under.

With this kind of award-winning acting experience, It’s not surprising that Director Darrel Campbell saw in Jenna, “an artist who obviously prepares diligently, then demands a lot from herself in the scenes in which she is asked to operate. I could tell that Jenna had an understanding and a love for Madison Rogers and she was prepared to give Madison all the life she had prepared for her.”

Jenna demonstrates a real understanding for the film and her character as she explains, "The Last Ounce of Courage is about a guy that kind of loses his fire for his country and freedoms but then his grandson comes along and his friend which is me, Madison, and then it rekindles that fire. He’s just so passionate about our country and people who have died for our country and our freedom. It’s really cool."

Kari Revere

Kari is a young, pregnant, newlywed whose husband is a soldier going off to war. Suddenly widowed, she is left as a young single parent. After 13 years in California, she returns with her son to live with Bob and Dottie Revere and to start a fresh chapter in life. She wants her son to have a small town upbringing. Through hardship Kari has learned the value of being connected to a family and longs for security and stability.

KKari is played by the talented Nikki Novak. Nikki’s credits include Impact Point, The Holiday, The Young Hollywood Awards, Stolen Souls, Freddie, Kitchen Confidential and Any Given Sunday.

Darrell Campbell knew immediately when he saw Nikki’s audition tape that he wanted her to play the role of Kari. “Nikki had the controlled grace that our character needed. She embraced her character and injected grace into her. Kari is absolutely real to me because of sweet Nikki Novak.”

While Darrel was drawn to Nikki, Nikki likewise was drawn to the role of Kari and to the message behind Last Ounce of Courage. While she sees many roles for women which are stereotypical, she saw Kari as having a tough side but also a vulnerable sensitive side. But the number one thing that drew Nikki was “Bob’s character because he takes a stand and the script is risky ad it takes a stand and it has a strong message.... and I felt really strongly that no matter what your beliefs, if you don’t take a stand for what you believe in and you are afraid, then as Marshall Teague might say, don’t even bother showing up.”

Greg Rogers

The 34-year-old police chief of Mount Columbus, Greg has always been a leader. He was best friend to Thomas Revere before his death and currently lives next door to Bob and Dottie. He is a dedicated servant to the town and a responsible father to his teenage girl whom he is raising alone.

GGreg is played by the talented Rusty Joiner. A southern himself, Rusty brought his All American good looks and integral southern charm to the character of Greg. Rusty began his career as a model and has graced the pages of Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, DNA, Cosmopoliton, Vogue Homme and Men’s Health. Rusty quickly transitioned from model to actor with a variety of film roles including the feature Dodgeball and the thriller Resident Evil: Extinction as well as guest starring roles on The Closer, Close to Home, Bones, CSI:Miami, ER, Boston Public, Dr. Vegas and Spin City.

Darrel Campbell explains that when he shared his perspective on the character Greg to Rusty, “it was as if he understood, as if he created the character himself. Rusty Joiner is an actor’s actor. He studies hard and he tries diligently to only deliver to the screen the most honest moments he can. When you watch Rusty’s face, you get the feeling he could act out a nice long scene and never say a word.”

PePerhaps what Darrell was picking up on was the connection Rusty felt with the character Greg and with the film. As Rusty says, “Its everything of what I believe in and who I am.” He explains, “ And from the beginning every word of the film just touched me. I was thinking this is too good to be true. They don’t write movies like this. This is like real life for someone like me as a Christian man. You wouldn’t think they would put that in a movie, and I kept reading and reading it and the story was beautiful and the family relationships were awesome and every person, the way they were connected to the other people in the film was great. And by the time I was finished, for the first time in my life I said I have got to do this film.”

Warren Hammerschmit

Warren is a successful lawyer in his 50s, and a warrior for the American Civil Liberties Organization. Warren is a firm believer in the separation of church and state and feels called to smash anyone or anything that he feels crosses the line. Bold, brash and fearless, Warren will take on anyone at anytime as he does when he feels Bob crosses the line between church and state.

TThis tough character of Hammerschmidt is played by the tough Fred Williamson. Ironically nicknamed Hammer, Fred was a Former Oakland Raiders/Kansas City Chiefs football star who has gone on to a long and illustrious career as an actor, director, writer and producer. This 6’3” actor quickly established himself as a street wise tough guy in films including That Man Bolt, Black Caesar and Mean Johnny Barrows.

One of the biggest reasons Fred was chosen to play Hammerschmidt was “his tough guy presence on screen. He is known as a big time action hero in most of the world and I knew that if we put that natural strength into an expensive suit we would have the threatening, yet classy guy I was looking for, “ according to Darrel Campbell.
